2016 Formula One Championship leader Nico Rosberg topped the FP3 timesheets during the final practice session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Rosberg posted a 1:20.261 only just edging ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who put in the 2nd quickest FP3 time – only 0.002s off Nico’s time. Their times were almost half a second ahead of the rest of the pack.
Daniel Ricciardo went third fastest for the Hungarian GP FP3 session, 0.465s behind Rosberg whose team mate Lewis Hamilton kept a low profile in fourth place after missing most of Friday’s second practice session after crashing into the barriers.
The Scuderia locked up 5th and 6th on the time sheets with Kimi Raikkonen 0.598s behind Rosberg and Ferrari team mate Vettel over three tenths behind the Iceman.
Fernando Alonso brought his McLaren home 7th fastest on the FP3 time sheets, ahead of Valterri Bottas and Sergio Perez. Renault didn’t do too badly with the oversteering Jolyen Palmer rounding out the top 10.
Felipe Massa brought the second Williams home 11th fastest, ahead of Kevin Magnussen, Jenson Button and the Haas duo of Esteban Gutierrez and Romain Grosjean.
Toro Rosso will be hoping for better qualifying performance, with Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniil Kvyat finishing the FP3 session only 16th and 18th, split by Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson finished 18th and 19th with the two Manor drivers completing the field, 3 seconds off Rosberg’s time.
During FP3, the FIA issued a note to teams informing them that there would be a zero tolerance approach to exceeding the track limits during qualifying. Drivers leaving the track will see their times deleted.
