McLaren To Remove FRIC Suspension for German Grand Prix

McLaren MP4-29

The McLaren Formula 1 team has become the first team to confirm that it will remove its FRIC suspension system from their cars for the German Grand Prix.

This comes after the FIA said that they will delay a move to ban FRIC systems until the start of next season as long as all the teams agreed to this. That does not seem like it will happen anymore as some teams were reluctant to agree.

If teams do run FRIC suspension in the German Grand Prix they run the risk of rival teams protesting the legality of the car. The stewards will have to take action against the car under investigation, but only if the FIA notifies the stewards that cars running FRIC suspensions do not comply with the regulations. The FIA has not yet published any official information about the FRIC suspension issue.

“McLaren does not currently intend to run a FRIC suspension system at the German Grand Prix,” said a McLaren spokes person. “McLaren will comply with the FIA’s rulings on the matter.”

It is expected that other teams will follow suit in removing their FRIC suspension setups and move to a more conventional setup.
