Ferrari Concedes That 2014 Improvement is Not Possible

After another lacklustre performance in Austria, Ferrari say that due to the freeze on engine development it will be impossible for them to close the gap to Mercedes.

The engine homologation rules state that no further developments may be carried out on engines except for reliability reasons. This is partly the reason why Red Bull are struggling this season.

Ferrari Team Principal, Marco Mattiacci has said that it will  not be possible to close the gap to Mercedes this season and the only thing they can work on is reliability.

Fernando Alonso echoed the words of his team principal. “There’s too much difference,” he said. “We cannot touch the engine, we cannot make big changes.”

It seems as though Ferrari have turned their attention to 2015 with Alonso hinting that they will be in a better position next year.

“In one year many things can happen and we saw some cases in the past where one year from another many things can change. Especially this year we are very new, so I expect in 2015 there will be big steps from everybody, including Mercedes. So we will all be better next year, he explained”
