Vettel to Sit Out Qualifying for US GP

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel says that he will sit out this weekends qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.

The German will use his 6th engine of the season, that’s one more than the regulations permit. This comes after his problems at the Singapore Grand Prix where he suffered an oil pressure loss in Friday Practice. Red Bull knew that Vettel would need to use a 6th unit and it looks as they have chosen this weekend to take the penalty.

This will not be just an engine change for Vettel. Nearly all the components that make up the power unit will need to be changed, so he will have to start from the pit lane instead of taking a penalty.

“As far as I know, the plan is to use the opportunity to change, to have a sixth component of all the various components,” said Vettel talking to AutoSport.

“Obviously for that as far as the regulations are concerned we have to start from the pit-lane.”

Red Bull will take a completely different approach to the weekend for Vettel. Instead of concentrating on qualifying setup during practice, they’ll use that time to focus on their race setup.

“Once you have to start from the pitlane your focus is not on qualifying because no matter what you do in qualifying it doesn’t matter because you still have to start from the pitlane,” added Vettel.
