F1 2014: Vettel on Top in Wet Silverstone FP3

Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel finished on top of the time sheets in a wet Free Practice 3 of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Vettel set a time of 1:52.522 on the intermediate tyres to set the fastest time of the session with team mate Daniel Ricciardo finishing P2 with a time of 1:52.631. The Lotus pair of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado finished the session in P4 and P5 respectively. The Mercedes pair of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Marussia’s Max Chilton did not set any times for the session.

It was quite a tricky session for the drivers as the rain started coming down in the second half of the session. This resulted in lots of oversteer moments and off track excursions. One such moment was when Grosjean dropped it on the exit of the final corner. His rear left wheel got onto the slippery astroturf which sent his car into a spin. Credit to the Frenchman who held it rather well and got the car pointed in the right direction before hitting the pit wall.

There were a few drivers that got caught out at Stowe by  getting on the brakes a bit to late and running wide on the exit. Marussia’s Jules Bianchi was a bit unlucky as he locked up under braking which sent his car over the gravel and into the tyre barriers.

We’re expecting a wet qualifying so expect things to get interesting
