Pirelli Announces Tyre Choices for Spain, Monaco, Canada and Austria

Pirelli tyre choices

Formula 1 tyre manufacture Pirelli announced the tyre choices for the next 4 rounds of the Formula 1 World Championship.

The tyre nominations are unchanged from the 2014 season. The only difference is that the cars are expected to lap much faster than last year which will mean more energy goes through the tyres. Pirelli have anticipated this and have announced at the beginning of the season that this year’s tyres will have a stronger construction.

The tyres nominated for the Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place in two and a half weeks time, are the Orange hard compound tyre and the White medium compound tyre. The Circuit in Montmelo was used as a testing venue before the start of the season and Pirelli have gathered enough data about the track conditions to determine which tyre suits the circuit. High energy loads and high ambient temperatures makes the two hardest compounds in the Pirelli stable the ideal choice for the Spanish Grand Prix.

For Monaco we’ll see the debut of the super soft compound this season. With Monaco being the slowest  circuit on the calendar a high priority is placed on mechanical grip. The Yellow soft and Red super soft tyres are the best tyres for the the famous Monaco street circuit.

The super soft and soft compound tyres will make another appearance in Canada for the Canadian Grand Prix. Although the circuit is a relatively high speed circuit with long straights there are many slow corners where mechanical grip out of the corners is critical.

The Austrian Grand Prix returns to the calendars once again at the Red Bull Ring with the tyre choice remaining the same as last year. The circuit is a relatively low speed circuit with a few sharp corners which require. The super soft and soft compound tyres, again, will be the best suited for the track conditions.
