F1 2013: US Grand Prix – Penalties for Gutierrez and Chilton

Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez and Marussia’s Max Chilton have each been given grid penalties ahead of the US Grand Prix.

Mexican Esteban Gutierrez has been given a ten place grid penalty for impeding Williams’ Pastor Maldonado in the first session of Saturday’s qualifying session. According to the steward’s statement “car #12 unnecessarily impeded car #16 between Turns 19 and 20 whilst performing manoeuvres that the stewards consider dangerous.” Gutierrez will start in 20th place on the grid.

Marussia’s Max Chilton was also found to have impeded Maldonado in the first session of qualifying and will have to serve a drive-through penalty within the first three laps of Sunday’s race. The stewards imposed a drive-through penalty on the Brit as a grid drop holds no consequence for a driver who already starts from the last position.
