McLaren’s Jenson Button will drop 5-places down the grid at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix due to a gearbox change.
This is because his previous gearbox only lasted him 2 races. Formula 1 Technical Regulation 28.6 (a) states that a driver may use no more than one gearbox for six consecutive races. Button’s gearbox was changed at the Singapore Grand Prix. That same gearbox lasted him till the Russian Grand Prix.
Speaking to AutoSport, Button seemed rather annoyed at the gearbox rule.
“I’ve got a gearbox change, which is a bit of a pain in the arse – a five place penalty,” said Button.
Button is hoping that they can carry over the strong pace they showed at the Russian Grand Prix and finish high up the order.
