Valtteri Bottas was declared unfit to race the Australian Grand Prix by the FIA Medical Delegate at the Albert Park Circuit.
Bottas complained of back pain during Q2 yesterday, he nevertheless took part in Qualifying and qualified P6. He was taken to the medical centre at the circuit after qualifying. He was taken to the hospital for further tests and scans and it was revealed he sustained a lower back disk annular tear,
Bottas remained overnight in hospital and worked with a physiotherapist this morning to determine if he was able to race today. The FIA took the decision that he is unfit to race the Australian Grand Prix.
According to deputy team principal, Claire Williams, he will be working to be ready in time for the Malaysian Grand Prix, but they will not hurry his recovery or take any risks to get him 100% fit.
