Speaking to the media at the second pre-season test in Montmelo, Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene has played down the strong pace they have showed at testing so far.
“I have never believed in such a thing as a winter championship,” he said.
“We have our feet on the ground and as I said already in December, winning two races could be considered a success, three would be perfect and if we win four, I will run barefoot on the hills of Maranello.”
At the first test in Jerez Ferrari showed some pace and finished on top of the time sheets on three of the four days. So far Raikkonen has finished fastest on the first day of the second test in Barcelona and was just 0.010s off the pace for the second day. It’s clear that Ferrari have made significant gains in aerodynamics and engine performance. It also seems as though the team is functioning smoother.
Whether all these changes yields race winning results is still to be determined.
