McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has not been cleared to race the Bahrain Grand Prix by the FIA medical team.
Following his crash at the Australian Grand Prix Alonso underwent chest scans today at the Bahrain International Circuit’s Medical Centre where chest scans were taken and compared. The medical delegates decided that there was “insufficient resolution of the signs to allow him to compete on safety grounds.”
This development makes way for McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne to make his F1 debut. Vandoorne is currently competing in a two-day Super Formula pre-season test in Japan. We are sure he’ll be on the next flight to Bahrain in time for Free Practice 1.
