Earlier this year, AUTOSPORT revealed that the Bahrain International Circuit was considering a night race to celebrate the circuits 10th anniversary of hosting Formula 1 races.
Circuit chairman, Zayed Al Zayani, revealed earlier this afternoon at Monza that an announcement is imminent.
Amid suggestions that Bahrain may be next season’s opener, the chairman has asked Bernie Ecclestone to move the date further back to accommodate for the time needed to make the upgrades required for the night race.
“We requested from Bernie not to be the first grand prix of the year because we are undergoing a major refurbishment of our track to commemorate the 10th anniversary,” Al Zayani told AUTOSPORT.
“There are many other upgrades, but the highlight will be the night race”, said Al Zayani.
