    Gutierrez Lands Ferrari Test and Reserve Driver Role

    The Ferrari Formula 1 Team announced on Monday 15 December that former Sauber Driver, Esteban Gutierrez will take up the role as reserve and test driver for the team for 2015.

    “While confirming our full confidence in a formidable race driver pairing, made up of four times World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, a past champion with Ferrari, I am pleased to welcome Esteban Gutierrez,” commented the Scuderia’s Director General and Team Principal, Maurizio Arrivabene.

    “We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to Esteban who, although young, has plenty of experience relating to the new generation of Formula 1 cars. I am sure that, with his experience, he will make an important contribution to the development work of the team in the simulator.

    Gutierrez had the following to say about his appointment: “It is an honour to become part of the Scuderia Ferrari family, a Team with such an exceptional history.”

    “It is for me the beginning of a new path for my future and I’m going to do my utmost to contribute to the achievement of the targets set by the Scuderia.

    “I want to thank everybody for their belief in my potential; this will bring a great opportunity for me to develop further and get to the top in the near future. With all my passion and dedication, I’m now looking forward to the start of this new venture.”

    Mattiacci:”What Ever it Takes

    New Ferrari Team Principal Marco Mattiacci has promised that he will do what ever it takes to get Ferrari back to the top of Formula 1.

    Speaking to Autosport on Friday, Mattiacci seemed confident that he will be able to get Ferrari back to winning ways even if it mean going on a massive recruitment drive.

    “I will discuss things with the chairman [Luca di Montezemolo], and clearly what is needed we will do,” he said. “Even going to the market. But with a clear idea that it is not just for the sake of shopping.”

    “It is only if we find someone that will bring extremely added value to a team that according to all of us is one of the highest level teams in F1. That is the philosophy. What is needed will be done.”

    Mattiacci feels that his lack of experience is not a bad thing for Ferrari. He believes that he can bring a fresh approach to the team rather than someone with knowledge of the sport. He is under no illusions of the monumental task he faces and he is very eager to prove that he has what it takes to lead the most successful team in Formula 1.

    All eyes are on Mattiacci now with the team and Tifosi all looking to him. He has a huge responsibility on his shoulders and he has been thrown right into the deep end. Only time will tell if the Ferrari President, Luca Di Montezemolo made the right choice.

     

  • The Ferrari F60 arrives in South Africa

    The Ferrari F60 arrives in South Africa

    The Ferrari F60 has arrived in South Africa for the launch of the new Shell V-Power Nitro+ Fuel.

    The F60 will perform a street demo opposite Soccer City in Johannesburg, the same stadium that hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup final.

    Scuderia Test driver Marc Gene will be at the wheel of the F60. The F60 was the last car Raikkonen drove when his first stint as a Ferrari driver ended in 2009

    The demo will take place on Saturday 15 February.

    The pit crew landed in South Africa this morning and went straight to the temporary circuit. The circuit which is just under one and a half kilometers long will see test driver Marc Gene do some spectacular burn outs, pit stops and full throttle fly by’s. Gene will land in South Africa tomorrow after which he will visit the Nelson Mandela’s house in Orlando

    It has been a while since we heard a Formula 1 car fire up in out back yard. We are very excited about this and we are looking forward to hearing the roar of the V8 echo around the Soccer City precinct.
