McLaren’s Jenson Button says that there are other opportunities for him outside of F1 if he does not manage to secure a drive next season.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, Button says that because of the uncertainty around his future it opened his eyes to other opportunities.
“It makes you think about other opportunities and other challenges,” said Button
“There’s so much out there, so many other challenges that I’m interested in taking on.”
Button has been linked to a WEC drive at Porsche next year. But there has been no word on that from either party.
When asked if he felt that the team showed him a lack of respect by the way he is being treated, he had this to say: “That is something I’m not going to answer. It’s and unfair question.”
Button went on to say that he was not disappointed, but he was disappointed that he does not have a winning car.
“I only want to be in Formula 1 to win,” he added.
“If I’m not winning next year, I do not want to be in the sport.”
When asked if he would stay on if McLaren gave him the nod, Button gave a very weary smile and after a long pause simply said: “I don’t know.”
