Track workers recover the crashed car of Mercedes Formula One driver Hamilton from Great Britain during the qualifying for the German F1 Grand Prix at the Hockenheim racing circuit
Hamilton Takes 5-Place Grid Drop Ahead of German Grand Prix
July 20, 2014 News

The Mercedes Formula 1 Team confirmed early on Sunday morning that they have changed Lewis Hamilton’s gearbox ahead of today’s German Grand Prix

This comes after Hamilton crashed in qualifying at the Sachs hairpin after  front brake disk failure on his car. The team was not sure of the extent of the damage to Hamilton’s car and no doubt made the discovery this morning.

The gearbox change will result in Hamilton dropping 5 places on the grid to start in P20. There is still no word from Mercedes as to whether Hamilton will start from the pitlane as they’ve decided to change Hamilton’s brake discs as well. It looks very likely that he will start from the pitlane.
