20-Place Grid Drop for Sainz at Japanese GP
October 6, 2017 Featured Stories

Carlos Sainz will start from the back of the grid on Sunday’s race for Toro Rosso at the Japanese Grand Prix after taking on new engine components going into Free Practice 1.

Toro Rosso fitted Sainz’s car with it’s 6th MGU-H, 5th internal combustion engine and 5th turbo charger. Because the MGU-H is the first 6th element used it resulted in a 10-place grid drop. The engine and turbo carried a 5-place grid drop each which totals a 20-place grid drop for the Spaniard.

This did not come as surprise to Toro Rosso as they had notified the FIA Technical Delegate of the change on Tuesday 3 October 2017.
