After initially being placed in a medically-induced coma and spending several months in hospital, Schumacher is continuing his rehabilitation at home in Switzerland.

Michael Schumacher and Jean Todt“Michael is a close friend, his family is very close to me, I am very close to them as well,” Todt said. “I see Michael very often, and Michael is still fighting. We must keep him fighting for the family.”

Schumacher’s official condition has never been revealed by the family, who are keen to maintain privacy. It has previously been reported that a staff of 15 are providing Schumacher with around-the-clock medical care. Sabine Khem, Schumacher’s manager, has fiercly defended his privacy since the accident, was quoted as saying that Schumacher was “making progress but his supporters should keep the seriousness of his injuries in mind”.

Todt added that Schumacher’s achievements have been magnified of recent since Lewis Hamilton wrapped up his third world championship title saying that, “It was interesting last week after Lewis was world champion for the third time. You saw the figures [seven titles]. I was very proud of what Michael did, and you tend to forget what Michael did.”

Our thoughts remain with Schumi and his family and friends.
