Hamilton Fastest in Second Practice for 2016 Russian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton finished fastest in the second Free Practice session for the Russian Grand Prix.

Hamilton set the fastest time of 1:37.853 on the super soft tyres in the Mercedes. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was the second fastest more than a second off the pace. Vettel’s time of 1:38.235 was set using the super soft tyres as well. Vettel managed to set his time a few laps before he came to a stop on the pit straight with an electronics problem. This brought out the virtual safety car while his Ferrari was being pushed back into the pits.

Nico Rosberg was third fastest setting a time of 1:38.450. Rosberg’s lap was compromised after a spin from Haas’ Romain Grosjean which brought out the yellow flags. Kimi Raikkonen was 4th fastest with a time of 1:38.793 closing off a Mercedes-Ferrari-Mercedes-Ferrari top 4.

Daniel Ricciardo was 5th fastest with Red Bull team mate two places down in 7th. Between the Red Bulls in 6th was Williams’ Valtteri Bottas.

Jenson Button in the McLaren finished his session 8th fastest ahead of Felipe Massa in 9th in the sister Williams.

Rounding out the top 10 was Fernando Alonso with a time of 1:29:400.

The Toro Rosso boys finished 11th and 12th with Carlos Sainz finishing 11th ahead of Max Verstappen. The Force India pair finished ended their session 13th and 14th. Nico Hulkenberg finished in front of team-mate Sergio Perez.

Kevin Magnussen ended his session in 15th with his team mate Jolyon Palmer in 18th. The two Haas F1 cars of Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez finished in 16th and 17th respectively.

Ending his session in 19th was Felipe Nasr in the Sauber. The Manor drivers were 20th and 21st with Rio Haryanto finishing ahead of Pascal Wehrlein. In the final position of the day was Mercus Erisccon in the second Sauber.
